One of our great uniquely American holidays is Thanksgiving. Who doesn't love a big meal with all your favorite comfort foods, including pumpkin pie for desert. All this and we get to share the experience with the people we love and respect.

On Friday, November 17th, the members of The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint - Averill Ave. location were treated to a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. The menu included: fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, beans, mac & cheese, salad, rolls and a variety of deserts and drinks. This dinner was made possible in part by a donation from The Burton Rotary who helped cover the cost of the food. Several of our Rotarians were on hand to set up and serve dinner to the kids and staff of the Boys and Girls Club. It was a heartwarming experience to see the smiles on the kids faces as they enjoyed a hearty meal with friends and positive role models. Thank you to all of the Rotarians who volunteered their time for this event.

This dinner is just one example of how Burton Rotary gives back to our local community. For more information on getting involved, please reach out to one of our members.
On Friday, October 20th, over 200 senior citizens gathered at Atherton Elementary School for the 2023 Senior Harvest Ball. The evenings activities included: A turkey dinner with all of the fixings, live music by "The Fairlanes", dancing, photo booth, a costume contest and door prizes for the attendees. The Burton Rotary Club has been hosting this event for over 20 years and are proud to honor the senior citizens in our community. One of the great things about living in Michigan is our access to some of the best hunting and fishing in the nation. Fortunately for us, we have several sportsman in our club who have a passion for everything outdoors. On September 9th, one of these members, Curt LaLonde hosted the 1st Annual Rotary Fish Fry! The idea behind this event was to promote fellowship throughout the club, introduce ourselves to potential new members and to enjoy the fresh caught walleye that Curt is famous for.

Although attendance was light, we enjoyed a great day, great friends and some of the best fish you have ever eaten! Thank you Curt and Dawn for hosting and making us feel like we are part of your family. We can't wait until next year!

Although many of us are working from home or have been temporarily laid off during this COVID-19 crisis. Our First Responders have been on the job, putting themselves and their families at risk since the beginning of the pandemic. As a small token of our appreciation, The Burton Rotary Club has handed out food vouchers to all of our Burton police and fire personnel. These certificates have been purchased at local Burton restaurants and not only help our First Responders, but our local businesses as well.

The Burton Rotary Club plans to continue this program for the duration of the crisis, and is looking at expanding the giving to include our valuable Senior Care Facility workers in our community. Thank you to President Rene for taking the lead on this important project.
